The method for the catalytic gasification of organic material is characterised in that the gasification is carried out in the liquid phase (water) at elevated pressure and temperature and without added oxygen. It is particularly suitable for the gasification of biomass, steam reforming and effluent treatment. Suitable catalysts are compounds from group I A of the periodic table, and here particularly potassium.
