The ice bolt according to the invention has a separate lever element 3 and locking element 6. The screw-in crank lever 3, which can be pivoted about an axis 5 lying perpendicular to the median axis 4 of the tube 1, permits the ice bolt to be screwed in or screwed out without an additional auxiliary tool. The sleeve element 6, provided with a cut-out 7, serves to receive a carabiner hook. In the unloaded state it is freely twistable and displaceable in the head-end section of the tube 1, but on being loaded it meshes with the ribs 11 extending in a helical manner on the head-end section of the tube 1. A non-positive engagement of the sleeve element 6 is achieved by a profile, complementary to the bore of the sleeve element 6, on the bolt head and releasable latching means 9. The functionality of the ice bolt is further increased by a wear-reducing layer 12 on the blade 13 of the cutting head and a slip-reducing coating of the inner wall 14 of the tube 1, with low adhesion to the ice. <IMAGE>
