DRIVING CIRCUIT OF SOLID STATE IMAGE PICKUP DEVICE

PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of a driving circuit by arranging a solid state image pickup element driving IC incorporating shift registers sandwiching a solid state image pickup element on both sides and applying the series output of a shift register as the series input of the other shift register. CONSTITUTION:A driving IC2 and 2' incorporating shift registers 3 and 3' are arranged to sandwich a solid state image pickup element 1 containing plural picture elements arrayed in a 2-dimensional form at both sides of the element 1. The parallel output terminal groups of the registers 3 and 3' are connected to the row selection input terminal groups which are led out to the left and the right of the element 1 respectively. Then the series output of one of both registers is applied as the series input of the other register. When a driving signal 4 is supplied, the odd rows of the element 1 are successively selected synchronously with a clock pulse. The signal 4 is applied to the register 3' from the register 3 after the (n-1)-th row is selected. Then the even rows of the element 1 are successively selected.
