The hinge arrangement for the vehicle door (1) is designed as a four-bar mechanism. The joints (3, 4) provided on the vehicle body (2) form the mount of the mechanism and support two forwardly directed hinge arms (5, 6). The vehicle door (1) is mounted at their ends via the link (7). The hinge arrangement makes it possible to ensure that, at the start of the opening movement of the vehicle door (1), the door is first moved outwards parallel to the remaining vehicle body over a relatively long opening range. Only when the vehicle door (1) is opened further is this followed by a marked pivoting movement of the door. <IMAGE>
