PURPOSE:To permit satisfactory recovery of a residual toner on the surface of an image carrier without damaging the image carrier by providing an elastic roller, shielding means for shielding and inducting the toner by oscillating the toner and desticizing electrode for the residual toner to the position below a cleaning blade and fur brush. CONSTITUTION:This cleaning device is provided with a 1st cleaning member consisting of the cleaning blade 21 which is mainly brought into pressurized contact with the image carrier to scrape the residual toner from said carrier, the 2nd cleaning member consisting of the fur brush which is mainly brought into sliding contact with the image carrier 21 to rub off the residual toner therefrom, the elastic roller 23 which is disposed below the two cleaning members 21, 22, is constituted freely rotatably and is brought into pressurized contact with the image carrier the shielding means which is formed of a thin rigid plate in the position opposite to the surface of the roller 23 in proximity thereto and oscillates to shield and induct the toner and the desticizing electrode 27 which is provided below the roller 23 and destaticizes the charge of the residual toner. The respective actions and effects of the electrode 27, the brush 22 and the blade 21 are synergistically acted to improve the recovery rate of the residual toner on the image carrier, by which the exact copy having good image quality is obtd.
