<p>PURPOSE:To reduce a cost of a gas-liquid contact apparatus by reducing the weight of the apparatus, to make the multipurpose use of the apparatus possible by elevating the acid resistance and the alkali resistance of a packing material for a gas-liquid contact apparatus, and to facilitate the handling of the packing material by preparing the packing material using formed carbon fiber reinforced carbon. CONSTITUTION:Carbon fiber reinforced carbon is formed to a desired shape, by impregnating the carbon fiber, if it is continuous fiber, with a carbonizable material such as phenol resin or furan resin, and winding the impregnated carbon fiber on a mandrel. The formed product is heated at 600-2,800 deg.C in inert atmosphere, and the carbonizable material is carbonized by holding at this temp. for a desired time. By this process, packing material comprising carbon fiber reinforced carbon having the same shape as the initially formed shape is obtd. The packing material has a remarkably small value of carbon fiber reinforced carbon as small as ca. 1.6 specific gravity therefore, reduction of weight of a gas-liquid contact apparatus is realized resulting also reduction of the cost of the apparatus. Moreover, the corrosion resistance to acid and alkali is also improved.</p> |
