PURPOSE:To form a special colored film with Al ions generated as an impurity when an anodic oxide film formed on Al or an Al alloy is electrolytically colored in an electrolytic coloring bath, by specifying the concn. of Al ions in the bath according to the degree of acidity of the bath. CONSTITUTION:An anodic oxide film is formed on Al or an Al alloy by anodic oxidation and is electrolytically colored in an electrolytic coloring bath contg. a salt of a metal such as Ni, Sn, Ca, Ba or Ti, and a pastel color is developed. When the bath used has high acidity of <2pH, the concn. of Al ions in the bath is regulated to >=5g/l. In case of low acidity of >=2pH, the concn. is regulated to >=1g/l. By this method, Al ions which hinder electrolytic coloring as an impurity can be utilized. Since the color tone of the base is seen through a color tone such as bronze, umber or gold developed by the electrolytic coloring bath, a novel pastel color is developed.
