[Also in Division F2] In a roller bearing an outer race 2 and a base 1 are secured together by plastic deformation of the race or base. In Fig. 1, the base is positioned in an enlarged internal diameter portion of race 2 and flange 3 is bent over. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the peripheral portion of the base is frusto-conical and the base is deformed by axial pressure to seat against ring (2). In Fig. 5 an initially conically enlarged end portion of ring 2 is deformed by a die 8 to retain base 5. In Fig. 7 (not shown), an end of a race is deformed to enter a groove in the base. |
