PURPOSE:To obtain a high-density gradational image at high speed, by bringing a sublimable dye-containing magnetic fluid and an image-receiving sheet into direct contact with each other, and selectively heating the magnetic fluid according to an electrical image signal. CONSTITUTION:A sublimable dye, e.g., an anthraquinone, azo or methine dye and particulates of a magnetic material, e.g., magnetite or manganese zinc ferrite are dispersed in a solvent together with a dispersant or the like, whereby a sublimable dye-containing magnetic fluid 5 can be obtained. The magnetic fluid 5 is placed in the vicinity of heat generating elements 2 in a thermal head substrate 1, and an upper plate 3 of a recorder comprising a magnet 4 is disposed opposite to the substrate 1 to form therebetween a gap through which an image-receiving sheet 8 can be passed. The sheet 8 is fed into the recorder by paper-supplying rollers 6, and after the sheet 8 is passed through the position of the heat generating element 2, an electromagnet is energized, whereby the magnetic fluid 5 is attracted toward the upper plate 3 of the recorder, with the sheet 8 disposed therebetween. With the heat generating elements 2 energized at this moment, the sublimable dye is evaporated, and is transferred onto the sheet 8, whereby an image is recorded. |
