PURPOSE:To produce the titled crystalline composite material which is small in particle diameter and has uniform composition, by allowing both water soluble titanium compd. and water soluble tin compd. to react with alkali metallic hydroxide or the like to form gel and heat-treating it at specified temp. CONSTITUTION:Uniform gel is formed by adding water soluble titanium compd. (titanium tetrachloride or the like) and water soluble tin compd. (stannic chloride or the like) to the aq. soln. of alkali metallic hydroxide (sodium hydroxide or the like), carbonate (sodium carbonate or the like) or ammonium compd. (ammonium bicarbonate or the like). Then this gel is washed to remove impurities and if necessary, water soluble alkali (ammonium hydroxide or the like) or water soluble acid (hydrochloric acid or the like) is added thereto and the mixture is heat-treated at >=100 deg.C. Thereby crystalline titanium oxide-tin oxide sol which is excellent in various characteristics such as particle size, dispersibility and uniformity is obtained.
