PURPOSE:To provide a clear paint which gives a coating film having excellent adhesion, appearance, etc., by producing an acrylic polymer having OH and acid values each within a specified range by polymerizing a monomer having a secondary OH group and using said polymer as the main ingredient. CONSTITUTION:An ethylenic monomer having a secondary OH group (e.g., hydroxypropyl acrylate) is copolymerized with an ethylenic monomer having a carboxyl group (e.g., acrylic acid) to obtain an acrylic polymer having an OH value of 80-200 and an acid value of 5-30. The acrylic polymer is used as the main ingredient and additives such as a curing agent (e.g., butoxylated methylol melamine), etc. are added thereto to obtain the desired clear paint. In this way, adhesion between the clear films themselves can be improved without sanding to a level at which there is practically caused no problem and a coating having an excellent appearance can be economically obtd.
