PURPOSE:To obtain a polyiminoformal having a formal group in the molecule, which is excellent in solvent solubility and therefore can easily give a high-MW polymer by a solution polycondensation reaction. CONSTITUTION:A polyiminoformal having repeating units of formula I [wherein R is m-phenylene, p-phenylene, 1,3-biphenylene, 1,4-biphenylene or formula II (wherein X is -O-, -CH2-, -C(CH3)2-, -S- or -SO2-) and n is an integer >=2]. Said polyiminoformal can be obtained by either a process (A) comprising solution- polycondensing a dihalomethane with an imino group-containing bisphenol of formula III (wherein R is as defined above) or a process (B) comprising solution- polycondensing an aromatic diamine with a formal group-containing dialdehyde compound of formula IV.
