PURPOSE:To facilitate the handling of characters whose inputs are troublesome and to secure the functions of characters having different processing systems, by printing character data to be replaced with the replacement data while replacing them. CONSTITUTION:The document data received from a data supply source 67 are stored at every page by a control means 68 via a page processing means 69. Then the data equivalent to a single page are evolved to a document memory 66 via a character generator CG 64. The CG 64 contains a character replacement table 65 consisting of the data 65-1 to be replaced and the replacement data 65-2. If the data 65-1 is included in the document data, the CG 64 outputs the data 65-2 and evolves it to the memory 66. When the evolution is through with data equivalent to a single page, these data are printed by a printing means 10.
