PURPOSE:To confirm a damage position in two dimensions and to reduce the fatigue at the time of inspection by weaving optical fibers into meshes before lamination caking when a structure member is made of a composite member and coupling both ends of the optical fibers to a light source and a photodetector. CONSTITUTION:The optical fibers 1 before the lamination caking are woven into meshes in the thickness direction. One-terminal sides of the optical fibers 1 are bundled and coupled with a LED 2 and the other-terminal sides are coupled, one by one, with a photodetector array 3. Light emitted by the LED 2 passes through the fibers 1 and is detected by the array 5, but if the composite member is damaged to enter an interlayer peeling state of interlayer shearing state, the array 3 does not detect the light signal because of the breaking of a fiber 1. The light signal is converted by the array 3 into an electric signal to display a fault position and a date on a display device 5 through a controller 4. The damage position of the composite member is therefore detected instantaneously in two dimensions. Consequently, the fatigue at the time of the inspection is reduced.
