PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of heat in an exciting coil by installing a control means which gradually increases the electric current for allowing the exciting coil of the switch of an electromagnetic pushing-in type starter motor to conduct, to the value for permitting a main contact point closing path to be closed by the turning-ON of the starter switch and then gradually reduces the electric current after the main contact point path is closed. CONSTITUTION:When a starter switch 3 is turned ON, a MOSFET 51 turned-ON by a control circuit 61, and an exciting coil 67 conducts. In this case, the duty increases through the MOSFET 51 through the lapse of time, and the electric current in the exciting coil 67 gradually increases, and the exciting force is gradually increased. Then, a plunger 5 is attracted upwardly, and a main contact point 4 is closed, and the above-described duty is gradually reduced to the value permitting a main contact point closing path to be held. An armature 9 is revolved by closing the main contact point 4, and a lever 11 whose one edge 11a is engaged with the plunger 5 is swung around a fulcrum 11c, and cranking is performed by the meshing of a pinion 10 with a plunger 13.
