PURPOSE:To obtain a remedy for cardiac insufficiency, containing an N<6>- substituted-adenosine-3',5'-cyclic phosphate or salt thereof as an active ingredient, having extremely low toxicity and capable of remarkably improving acute or chronic cardiac insufficiency state without accompanying side effects. CONSTITUTION:A remedy for cardiac insufficiency containing a compound expressed by the formula (R is alkyl or aralkyl) or salt thereof, e.g. N<6>-heptyl- adenosine-3',5'-cyclic phosphate sodium salt, as an active ingredient. The compound expressed by the formula has powerful myocardial contracting action and used in a dose of normally 0.1-3,600mg, preferably 10-1,200mg per day for an adult. The compound expressed by the formula is produced by reacting adenosine-3',5'-cyclic phosphate with an aldehyde and then reducing the resultant product.
