PURPOSE:To facilitate the paper tape running start/stop operations by sending a paper tape running start code to a terminal and then a stop code with a specific code when a paper tape reading command is received from a central processing unit. CONSTITUTION:A paper tape reading system consists of a central processing unit 10, a channel device 20, a paper tape reading terminal control device 30 and a paper tape reading terminal equipment 40. The device 30 contains a channel interface part 31, a control part 32, a memory part 33 and an input/ output interface part 34 and controls the equipment 40 by a command given from the unit 10. Then the device 30 receives the data from the equipment 40 and transfers them to the unit 10 after storing them. When the received data shows a specific code, etc., a paper tape running stop code to the equipment 40 and at the same time all data so far received to the unit 10.
