PURPOSE:To permit formation of a toner image having high resolving power by converging corona ions by a corona ion deflecting means to a transfer position of a recording medium positioned opposite to the photoirradiation position of a photosensitive body. CONSTITUTION:The corona ions generated from a corona charger 4 are converged by the corona ion deflecting means 5 to the transfer position on the recording medium 3 opposite to the photoirradiation position A. A toner 2 sticking on a photoconductive layer 13 is attracted to the corona ions and is thereby concentrically transferred to the medium when light is projected on the photosensitive body 1. The corona ions in the recording medium 3 are gradually neutralized by the ions in the air or the transfer of the electric charge through the recording medium 3 as the medium 3 moves and, therefore, the potential gradient in the moving direction of the medium 3 is gentle after the execution of the transfer and the toner 2 sticking to the medium stays in that position stably. The resolving power of the toner image is thereby improved, by which the flow of the toner image is prevented and the recording with the sharp toner image is permitted.
