PURPOSE:To reduce the after image without dummy scanning by giving plural number of times of a control signal forming a transferred part for one transfer of a signal charge in transferring the signal charge stored in a photosensing picture element part to a charge readout part. CONSTITUTION:A shift gate control signal SH is given 10 times to transfer one storage signal charge. The storage signal charge by an incident light radiated by one storage time is transferred to a CCD shift register 3 by signals SH11 ten times and read (signal H2) synchronously with a read clock phi during the next storage time. In this case, the signal charge remaining in the photosensing picture element part 1 is transferred to the register 3 by the next 10 times signal SH12 and read synchronously with the clock phi in the next storage time (signal I2). In repeating it, the incident light is taken as nearly 50% of the saturated luminous quantity of the image sensor and the storage time as 10ms, then the intensity ratio of the signal H2 and the primary and secondary after image signal I2, J2 in one specific picture element in the image sensor is nearly 97:2:1.
