PURPOSE:To reduce the color difference between an original and a copied copy even in the case of a change in an environment by providing a pattern generator and a RAM or the like and applying color correction based on a gradation pattern printed out in advance. CONSTITUTION:In the test mode, at first a predetermined gradation pattern is generated from a pattern generator 30, printed on copying form 21 and an original platen is set to a prescribed location on a glass 2. Then the optical system unit 7 is stopped at the position A of the form 21, the original is lighted by an illuminator 3 and the mixed color pattern is read by a CCD 6 and stored in a RAM 18. Succeedingly, the unit 7 is moved to positions B, C, D and the mixed color pattern is read similarly as the position A and stored in the RAM 18. Then the standard white plate is placed at the tip of the glass 2 and after the shading correction is applied, the color correction is applied based on the gradation pattern generated from the generator 30. Thus, the color difference between the original and the copied copy is reduced even in the case of the change in the environment.
