PURPOSE:To obtain chaff ashes containing a desired carbon residue by adjusting the amount of chaff ashes having different ratios of collected residual carbons and mixing the same, and detecting the carbon residue contained in the mixed chaff ashes according to the color tone thereof to thereby adjust the mixing ratio of the chaff ashes. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of exhaust gas vent ports 8 are provided vertically on a free board 14 disposed upward of a fluidized bed 13. A gas accompanying ashes is separated from ashes by ash collectors 3 provided at respective exhaust gas discharge passages by gradually inducing ashes containing a large amount of carbon residue. It is possible to deliver and mix ashes at a predetermined ratio at suitable times to adjust the carbon residue and the diameter of particles. Furthermore, since the color tone of chaff ashes gradually changes from while to black as the carbon residue changes from its small amount to its large amount, the color tone of chaff ashes can be automatically detected by previously making the change to have relationship with each other, thereby making it possible to detect the carbon residue.
