PURPOSE:To easily compensate the shortage of capacity even with respect to a PROM having large capacity, by installing a cartridge type memory. CONSTITUTION:At the time of processing data from a PROM 1, in case of processing a PROM whose capacity is larger than that of an internal memory 7, a cartridge type memory 9 for compensating the capacity of the PROM is installed in advance to a PROM device. At the time of starting the PROM device, information that the cartridge type memory 9 has been installed is sent to a CPU 3 from a key input part 6. After the PROM device has been started, the data of the PROM 1 is read from an input/output part 2, and when the storage capacity of the internal memory 7 has become full, its fact is informed to the CPU 3. When this information has been received, the CPU 3 stores the remaining data in the cartridge type memory 9 which has been installed in advance.
