PURPOSE:To economically obtain molded coal preventing reduction in compressive strength, fractionating and recovering tar condensed from a riser of coke oven to a suction main and using the tar as a binder for molded coal. CONSTITUTION:A coke oven gas form a carbonizing chamber 1 of a coke oven is abruptly cooled to about 90 deg.C in a riser by ammonia liquor flashing and sent through a dry main, a suction main, etc., to an indirect cooler 2, a direct cooler 3, etc. In the operation, part of tar taken out from a suction main tar decanter 17 is directly sent to a binder tank 11 and mixed with raw material coal from a raw material tank 12 by a blender 13. Further a kneader 14 is heated, the coal is blended with the binder and molded by a molding machine 15.
