PURPOSE:To by-pass respective resistance elements through jumper lines and to reduce the size of a variable attenuator with low VSWR by connecting a 1st resistance element group of plural resistance elements which differ in attenuation resistance and a 2nd resistance group of resistance elements which couple with said respective resistance elements and arranged at specific wavelength intervals in series. CONSTITUTION:Resistance elements 4a, 5a, and 6a which differ in attenuation resistance are formed at specific intervals on a microstrip line 2 on a dielectric substrate 1 to form the 1st resistance element group. Further, resistance elements 4b, 5b, and 6b which differ in attenuation resistance and couple with the elements 4a, 5a, and 6b are formed at specific intervals on the line to form the 2nd resistance element group. Further, the intervals of the couples of the resistance elements of the 1st and 2nd resistance element groups are set a quarter as long as wavelength, and the respective resistance elements 4a, 5a, and 5a, and 4b, 5b, and 6b are by-passed through jumper lines 7 to attain the size reduction with low VSWR.
