PURPOSE:To prevent degradation in light emission efficiency by providing >=1 pieces of grooves near the end part of a shielding plate in the part where the shielding plate and the inside surface of a light transmissive sealing body contact, and welding and joining said plate and body by heating. CONSTITUTION:The base end at the aperture of a glass tube is inserted to the end face of a bottom plate 1 to assemble a flash discharge tube. The shielding plate 7 is welded to the glass tube 6 to maintain airtightness in the process of constituting said discharge tube. The contact area of the welded part is increased to improve the airtightness thereof by providing the grooves to the shielding plate 7 in the welded part of the shielding plate 7 and the glass tube 6 or roughening the surface of said part at this time. For example, the grooves 7a, 7b are provided to the front end part of the shielding plate 7 to increase the contact area thereof so that the high airtightness between the shielding plate 7 and the glass tube 6 in contact therewith is maintained.
