PURPOSE:To realize the control of the writing/reading actions of variable length data and to simplify a hardware constitution, by regarding a servo area using the skip information produced from the servo area position information and the defect position information as a defect area and skipping this area. CONSTITUTION:The production of the skip information is started when a sensor number 200 storing the defect information is received by a memory means 2 in the writing/reading state of a count part. The servo area information is read out of a memory means 1 shown by the sector number 200; while a first defect position information is read out of the means 2. These information are sent to a comparing means 5. Thus the means 5 compares the position information 100 on a servo area with the defect position information 110 for output of the smaller position information 130. A memory means 7 stores the skip information 10 and the servo area is regarded as a defect area and skipped based on the information 130.
