PURPOSE:To eliminate the cause for assisting contamination of a polarizing plate and to prevent malfunction, erroneous display, etc., of a liquid crystal display device by treating the polarizing plate with a fungistat which can generate ions thereby imparting fungiproof and antistatic properties to said plate. CONSTITUTION:The polarizing plate is treated with the fungistat which has a sterilizing or antimicrobial effect and can dissociate ions. The form of the polarizing plate to be treated is not particularly limited. The representative examples of the treatment methods include a dipping method of immersing polarizing plate constituting elements such as polarizing plates and bases into a fungistat-contg. liquid prepd. in the form of a soln. or fine liquid dispersion to stick the fungistat thereto, method of compounding and incorporating the fungistat with and into the polarizing plate constituting elements such as bases and adhesive agents or coating method, etc. A state of having the fungistat on the surface part of the polarizing plate where fungi are liable to propagate and the polarizing plate is liable to electrification is more preferable.
