PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of the input of a KATAKANA (square form of Japanese syllabary) in a Japanese language text, by storing a KATAKANA string in which an inputted HIRAGANA (cursive from of Japanese syllabary) or KANJI (Chinese character) is converted to the KATAKANA with arbitrary length, and replacing a character string with the same reading to the KATAKANA automatically when it is inputted again. CONSTITUTION:A character and a ruled line, etc., inputted from an input device 1 are sent to a following process decision circuit 2. A character string input control circuit 6 converts an inputted HIRAGANA data by a KANA-KANJI conversion circuit 9, and stores it in an undefined information storage area 10. A KATAKANA candidate group generation circuit 17 generates a KATAKANA candidate from the area 10, and stores it in a KATAKANA candidate group storage area 18. A candidate selection circuit 15 selects a converted KATAKANA with the arbitrary length, and replaces a corresponding part in the area 10, and displays it on a display device 21, and also, writes it on a learning data storage area 16. And when the character string with the same reading is inputted again, it is replaced by the KATAKANA automatically. In such a way, it is possible to improve the efficiency of the inputting of the KATAKANA in the Japanese language text.
