PURPOSE:To permit easy and inexpensive formation of a cast character pattern by arranging plural character molds on a vacuum base, sucking a softenable resin sheet onto character molds so as to cover the surface thereof and removing the sheet from the character molds after cooling. CONSTITUTION:The character molds 3a, 3b... constituting cast characters are combined and arrayed on a metal net 1a of the vacuum base 1. The thermally softening film sheet 4 is drawn out of a take-up roll onto the vacuum base 1 and is horizontally held by a film holding frame 5. Electric power is supplied to a panel heater 6 so that the heater generates heat and softens the sheet 4 quickly. A vacuum pump 2 is then actuated to suck the internal space of the vacuum base 1. The softened film sheet 4 is sucked atop the vacuum base 1 by the flow of the air passing the through-holes of the character molds 3a, 3b.... The power feed to the heater 6 is stopped when the sheet 4 adheres completely and tightly to the molds 3a, 3b.... The molds are then cooled by a cooling fan and thereafter, the cured sheet 4 is removed from the molds 3a, 3b.... These molds are disconnected from each other and the cast character sheet pattern is obtd.
