PURPOSE:To easily and quickly obtain the characters of a desired character type by providing the selecting means of resembling characters at every character type and outputting selected resembling characters from a recognizing part. CONSTITUTION:A character is recognized by a recognizing part 2 based on X, Y coordinate dot string data from a tablet part 1, and recognition results are sent from a detecting part 5 to a display part 4 when a preferential candidate key is not depressed. When this key is depressed, a KANJI (Chinese character)/HIRAGANA (cursive form of Japanese syllabary) key 31, a KATAKANA (square form of Japanese syllabary) key 32, an alphabetic key 33, a number key 34, or a symbol key 35 are discriminated; and if one of them is depressed, the character of a corresponding character type is sent as the recognition result from the recognizing part 2 to the display part 4 by the designation signal from the detecting part 5.
