PIPERAZINE DERIVATIVES AND PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION THEREOF A b s t r a c t the invention relates to a new and improved process for the preparation of 8-{4- ¢ 4-(2-pyrimidinyl)- -l-piperazinyl!-butyl}-8-aza-spiro¢ 4.5!decane-7,9- -dione of the Formula I (I) and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, which comprises hydrogenating a compound of the general Formula II (II) (wherein A stands for -C?C- or -CH=CH-) and, if desired, converting the compound of the Formula I thus obtained into a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof. The compound of the Formula I is a known anxioselective agent. The invention also relates to intermediates used in the above process and a method for the preparation thereof.
