DISCRETE SEPARATION OF MULTI-CORED OPTICAL FIBER CORE

PURPOSE:To permit safe and sure sepn. of the inside cores of a multi-cored optical fiber core by inserting knives into the outside coating layer of the multi- cored optical fiber core from two points facing each other to incise the outside coating layer and to expose the inside cores and discretely separating the cores. CONSTITUTION:A tool 20 for removing the coating is so constituted that the tool can be opened and closed by means of a hinge 23. The tool 20 is opened and the multi-cored optical fiber core 10 is positioned into a guide groove 22 in a longitudinal direction, then the tool 20 is closed. Tips 21a of the knives 21 are so set in the guide groove 22 that said tips project into the guide groove 22 by as much as the thickness of the outside coating 14 of the multi-cored optical fiber core 10. The outside coating layer 14 is incised on both side faces thereof and the inside cores 13 are separated without flawing the cores 13 when the multi-cored optical fiber core 10 is slid along the guide groove 22.
