PURPOSE:To enable automatic machining to be continuously performed, by detecting an electrode for its misinsertion into an electrode guide by a contact position detecting mechanism, which restricts its action by the reference time of an operational limit, further constituting a machine being controlled by a machining program. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 16, when its insertion mistake into an electrode guide 40 is generated, is brought into no contact with a workpiece 10, accordingly a contact position detection is finished in the point of time in which the time, consumed by contact position detection for a moving distance d'', exceeds the reference time preset by the worker. Here the sequence of a machining program is changed. This change, which is realized by a time read mechanism having a numerical control unit, arithmetic mechanism and a change mechanism of the executed machining program sequence, is performed by an NC instruction in all the machining program.
