The invention relates to a gas laser device using destabilising control of the metastable state to generate collisional electrons. The gaseous medium 1 is composed of three gases T, G, D; G is the main gas from which arises the gas from the active centres C; D plays the primordial role in the device, it serves to deexcite the metastable level of C with the energy from which it generates the electrons by ionisation. The gas T serves to enhance the excitation of C. The excitation of the medium 1 is either transverse or longitudinal, through application of a DC or periodic voltage to the electrodes 4 or 5. The present invention is characterised by its ability to operate in continuous-wave mode around the transitions ending up at the metastable level, the latter being effectively emptied continually. The device according to the invention enables the field of industrial applications of lasers to be extended to artisanship. <IMAGE>
