PURPOSE:To shorten the time for assembly and adjustment by incorporating optical waveguide structure into an optical demultiplexer and forming a multi- layered dielectric film filter directly to the end face of optical waveguides. CONSTITUTION:The multi-layered dielectric film filter 10 is formed on the end face where two pieces of the quartz glass optical waveguides 9 formed on a substrate 8 intersect with each other. A photodiode 11 is directly connected to the multi-layered dielectric film filter 10 and an optical fiber 12 and a laser diode 13 are connected to the other end face of the waveguides 9. The optical fiber 12 is communicated with a subscriber from the station side and the subscriber can receive the light signal sent by light of a wavelength lambda2. On the other hand, the light signal of a wavelength lambda1 from the subscriber side is transmitted through the same optical fiber 12 and is guided into the waveguides 9. The multi-layered dielectric film filter 10 has the function to allow transmission of the light of the wavelength lambda1. After the light transmitted therethrough is entered to the photodiode 11, the light is converted to various kinds of information. The time for the assembly and adjustment is thereby shortened. |
