PURPOSE:To reproduce accurate data without generating distortion in a reproduced output signal waveform by superposing a current necessary for forming a magnetic field having a reverse direction against a magnetic field formed by the leaked magnetic flux of an erasing head and having the same energy to a recording/reproducing head. CONSTITUTION:The erasing head 5 having a gap 5a is arranged on the upper part of a recording medium 4 in a traveling X direction. A current required for forming a magnetic field H having the reverse direction against the magnetic field formed by the leaked magnetic flux Ga of the head 5 and having the same energy on the position of the recording/reproducing head 6 is superposed to an exciting coil of the head 6. Thereby, data Sa formed before a magnetic layer S are erased and a reproduced signal waveform free from distortion can be obtained. so that accurate data can be reproduced.
