A horizontal spinning ring consisting of inner 8 and outer 6 flanges supported by a circular web 4 has the upper portion 15 of the inner wall of the web sloping outwardly to form a wide angled notch between the portion 15 and a generally horizontal under surface 18 of the inner flange 8 in which an enlarged synthetic, head 28 of the inner end of a traveller 22 resides such that during normal operation the traveller is maintained at fixed vertical and radial positions with respect to the ring. A lubricating fluid, eg. oil, may be supplied to the surfaces against which the head 28 engages by providing an oil receiving groove 10 in the upper surface of the ring and either making the ring of a rigid porous material or else providing a passage running from the groove to one of the surfaces. An inwardly concave surface 16 may join the two surfaces 15 and 18, the included angle between surfaces 15 and 18 being between 75‹ and 90‹. The enlarged head 28 may be a rectangular or disc like bar of synthetic material, e.g. nylon polyacetal resin, or polyamide, which is drilled to receive the end of a steel traveller 22.</p> |
