Heading C5E. 4-Methyl-pentene-1 is prepared by dimerizing propylene in the gas phase at 100-175‹ C. and at least 10 atm. gauge pressure over a solid metallic lithium catalyst prepared by re-metallization of an organo-lithium compound LiR (where R is aryl, cycloalkyl or C 2-18 alkyl) with another alkali metal, preferably potassium, in an inert solvent which is removed before the dimerization. The whole mixture thus obtained may be used as catalyst or the organo-alkali metal by-product from the re-metallization may be removed.</p> |
