SELF-TENSIONING HAIR WAVING ROD

Self-tensioning hair-waving device comprises an elongated cylindrical rod of sponge-like material capable of absorbing water, around which hair strands are wrapped under essentially dry conditions; the sponge has a support which extends through its axis and is kept in position by retainer components at the outer ends of the sponge. The sponge comprises a hydrophilic polymer which expands on absorption of water by 50-250 vol.%, so that the hair strands are drawn in and gripped tightly between the sponge and an outer plastic strip which runs along the length of the cylinder and is attached at the ends. The sponge contains a water-soluble hair-waving agent which is transferred to the hair in use.
