The voltaic cells are heated to temperatures between 450 DEG C and 700 DEG C with a quantity of oxygen which is greater than that stoichiometrically required for the combustion of plastics and organic constituents. The combustion off-gases are, after they have left the autoclave (1) which can be sealed gas-tight, passed to a cooler (2, 3) and purified. Condensate, especially Hg and sublimate, is taken off from the cooler. Purified off-gas is taken off from the gas purification device (6) and at least 70 % by volume of the purified off-gases are, after adjusting the oxygen content to between 15 % by volume and 40 % by volume, preferably between 20 % by volume and 35 % by volume, circulated and fed again to the autoclave (1). <IMAGE> |
