<p>PURPOSE:To realize high-speed translation and also to miniaturize a mechanical translation device by detecting the word length to switch a retrieving device according to the detected word length when the words of an original sentence are retrieved and segmented and at the same time forming a translation dictionary in response to those word lengths. CONSTITUTION:One of the sentences to be translated is extracted at an original sentence input part 1 and the character strings serving as the word candidates are segmented 2 and delivered to a character string length comparing/deciding circuit 3. The circuit 3 decides whether the character string length is less than four characters or not. If so, the character strings of word candidates are sent to a character string (short) comparator 4. If not, the character strings are sent to a character string (long) comparator 6 respectively. The comparator 4 compares said received character strings with the word inscription less than four characters stored previously in a word inscription (short) memory area 5 and sends the position information on the coincident character string is exists to a character string segmenting circuit 2. At the same time, a translation dictionary is formed in response to the word lengths. In this case, it is required for the comparator 4 to search the area 5 only and not required to read out a word inscription (long) memory area 7. Thus the word retrieving time is shortened.</p> |
