PURPOSE:To facilitate formation of a variable intake flow path by arranging a variable member formed with a spiral groove in the outer circumferential face thereof in an air cleaner casing, then translating the movable member corresponding to the operating condition of an internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION:A filter element 20 is arranged in the casing 10 of an air cleaner 1, while an outer air lead-in port 14 and a clean air lead-out port 16 are made respectively at upper and lower portions thereof. Here, a tubular member 30 having a series of spiral grooves 31 in the outer circumferential face thereof is fitted slidably over the outer circumference of a guide tube 15 arranged at the lower section of the casing 10, so as to form a spiral flow path 40. A stem 51 associated with a rack 51R is provided at the end section of the tubular member 30, and a stepping motor 52 associated with a pinion 53 engageable with the rack 51R is provided on the casing 10. A drive unit 50 constructed in such a manner is controlled by a controller 60 corresponding to the operating condition of an internal combustion engine so as to vary the length of the spiral flow path 40.
