PURPOSE:To prevent projection of a carburetor, when an engine is arranged longitudinally, by forming scavenging paths above a crankshaft and arranging a carburetor on the axis of the crankshaft in front or rear of a cylinder then communicating the carburetor with the scavenging paths. CONSTITUTION:During compression stroke of an engine 11, a piston 33 lifts in a cylinder 25, and when negative pressure is produced in a crank chamber 14a, mixture gas is sucked from a carburetor 36 through an intake port 31c and a rear scavenging path 31b into the crank chamber 14a. During subsequent expansion stroke, the mixture gas is fed through front and rear scavenging paths 31a, 31b into a combustion chamber. Here, the front and rear scavenging paths 31a, 31b are formed above the crankshaft 12. A carburetor 36 is arranged above the axis of the crankshaft 12 in the rear of the rear scavenging path 31b. Consequently, the carburetor 36 is prevented from projecting laterally outward even when the engine 11 is mounted laterally onto a vehicle. |
