PURPOSE:To achieve good printing performance, excellent soundproofing and vibration- proof effect, by a method wherein a hard elastic layer is arranged to the outer peripheral part of a platen roller and a solid columnar substrate constituted of a vibration- proof material having rigidity is arranged inside the elastic layer and the ratio of the substrate to the outer diameter of the roller is set to a proper degree. CONSTITUTION:A platen roller is constituted by arranging a hard elastic layer 3 to the outer periphery of a solid columnar substrate 1 having a rotary shaft 2. The hard elastic layer 3 can be formed of a hard rubber or resin, a fiber material and the like. In the solid columnar substrate 1, it is necessary to set the ratio of the outer diameter (l) of said substrate and the outer diameter L of the product containing the substrate and the hard elastic layer 3 to a range of 45-75%. The solid columnar substrate 1 is formed using a vibration-proof material having rigidity, for example, composed of a metal such as iron, lead or zinc or an alloy and having highly attenuating capacity wherein vibration energy is consumed by internal friction. Since the vibration generated by the impact of the surface of the roller is absorbed at first by the hard elastic layer and further absorbed by the solid columnar substrate, excellent vibration-proof and soundproof effects are developed.
