<p>PURPOSE:To recover H2S in gas in the form of S by allowing ferrous sulfate solution to permeate a substrate to which iron oxidizing bacteria are adhered for oxidizing it into ferric sulfate solution and allowing said ferric sulfate solution to absorb H2S contained in a gas. CONSTITUTION:Ferrous sulfate solution to be fed is flowed out of the up end outlet of an air lift tube 2, distributed by separating plates 6, and larger part of the same passes again through a packed layer 3 filled with glass wool as bacteria substrate, and comes downward to the lower end, and is sent into the air lift tube 2 again together with compressed air. Oxidization treatment of ferrous sulfate solution is repeated by such circulation of solution. Next, ferric sulfate solution is repeatedly sent into a scrubber 11 through a scrubber tank 10, and in the scrubber the same is contacted with gas containing H2S to absorb H2S and generate simple sulfur.
