PURPOSE:To obtain carbon black having excellent stability of magnetic properties, by feeding simultaneously a magnetic transition metal compd. and hydrogen gas to an injection port of a raw hydrocarbon material. CONSTITUTION:In a combustion chamber at the top of a reaction furnace, a raw hydrocarbon material which is an arom. hydrocarbon compd. such as coal tar oil, ethylene bottom oil, benzene, toluene, etc.,is injected into a high- temperature combustion gas stream obtd. by perfectly burning a fuel such as light hydrocarbon oil or natural gas. A magnetic transition metal compd., which is a metallocene, a carbonyl complex compd. an inorg or org. salt of at least one metal selected from among Fe, Co and Ni, is injected into the downstream zone of said injection port, and at the same time, H2 is fed thereto form magnetic carbon black. Water is sprayed thereon for cooling and the magnetic carbon black is then separated and collected.
