PURPOSE:To save the capacity of a memory and to realize the input of an original drawing with simple circuit constitution by dividing the original drawing for each divided partial image data block to store them temporarily in a data memory and then compressing those divided drawings for each divided and stored data block. CONSTITUTION:When an original drawing 1 is supplied by an input device 2 of a drawing input device, the drawing 1 is divided into four pieces both laterally and longitudinally for acquisition of a 1/16 partial image data block. This data block is supplied to a data memory 40 containing two buffer memories 41 and 42 so that the partial blocks 1-4 and 5-8 are temporarily stored in both memories 41 and 42 respectively. Then the blocks 1-4 and 5-8 are outputted to a data compressor 5 to undergo compression processing in the MH and MR systems, etc. The partial block data are stored in a compressed data memory 60. Then the partial blocks 9-16 are processed in the same way of control. Thus the capacity of the memory 40 is reduced and the input of the drawing 1 is simplified.
