PURPOSE:To easily extract only a closed circuit by discriminating an end point, an ordinary point and branch point or an intersection according to the number of black picture elements of the eight neighborhood picture elements of a noticed picture element and erasing a point which is not included in a closed circuit based on this discriminated result. CONSTITUTION:The number of the black picture elements in the eight neighborhood picture elements 3 of the noticed picture element 2 is counted, when the number of the black picture elements is 1, the point is discriminated to the end point, when the number of the black picture elements is 2, it is discriminated to be the ordinary point, when the number of the black picture elements is above 3, it is discriminated to be the branch point or the intersection and a point 4 in the vicinity of the branch point or the intersection is also discriminated to be the branch point or the intersection, respectively. Based on the discriminated result, the point which is not included in the closed circuit of eight connected fine line binary pictures is erased. Thereby, a processing for extracting the closed circuit from the fine line can be simply executed.
