A lubricant suitable for engines, gears, hydraulic-mechanic or hydraulic systems comprises a lubricating oil base and between 1 and 20% by weight of (a) the reaction product of a polybutene treated with phosphorous (V) sulphide and having a molecular weight of between 500 and 2000 reacted with a monohydric alcohol or (b) the reaction product of (a) reacted with a polyalkylene polyamine. The alcohol may be oleyl alcohol and the amine may be dipropylene triamine or tetraethylene pentamine. Optional additives include sulphonates, alkyl phenolates, metal salts of reaction products of phosphorous (V) sulphide and polybutene, metal amino alkyl phenolates, dialkyl dithiophosphates, alkyl succinic acid imides, copolymers of methacrylic acid and amines or of vinyl acetate, fumaric acid esters and maleic acid and unspecified compounds of sulphur, chlorine or phosphorus as E.P. additives.ALSO:A lubricating oil additive comprises the reaction product of polybutene and P2S5 further reacted with an alcohol; the product may be still further reacted with a polyalkylene polyamine. The molecular weight of the phosphosulphurized polybutene is 500 to 2000. The alcohol may be oleyl alcohol and the amine may be dipropylene triamine or tetraethylene pentamine. |
