PURPOSE:To produce the title prepreg excellent in strength in both axial and radial direction, by impregnating an axially arranged fiber bundle with a reactive resin, winding a fiber around the periphery of the bundle, coating the outside with a thermoplastic resin and bringing the reactive resin to B-stage. CONSTITUTION:A roving (a) fed from a creel 11 and unidirectionally drawn is passed through a resin impregnation tank 12 whose temperature is controlled with a temperature controller 22 and impregnated with a reactive resin. The content of impregnated resin is controlled with a squeezer 13, and a braid yarn (b) is wound around the periphery of the roving (a) in the form of a braid with a braider 14. This roving may be wound in the form of a spiral. The outside is coated with a thermoplastic resin in an extruder 15. Thus, part of the reactive resin excessively infiltrated into the fiber bundle 3 exudes to the outside and infiltrates into the reinforcing layer 2 to bring the entire fibrous layer to a state impregnated with a suitable amount of the resin. The obtained product C is cooled in water-cooled apparatus 16, aged to bring said reactive resin to B-stage in an aging apparatus 17, cooled in a cooling apparatus 18, passed through a take-up motion 19 and traverser 20 and wound around a winder 21.
